Continuity
The Leading Lives of Consequence campaign will significantly bolster the W&L Fund, allowing the university to remain agile and react quickly when immediate needs arise.
The W&L Fund
Supporting the W&L Fund has the most direct and positive impact on the student experience at Washington and Lee. Annual gifts bolster the university’s financial position, ensuring that the university remains agile and able to address immediate needs as they arise. The W&L Fund empowers an exceptional educational experience for all students, strengthening our arts and athletics offerings and funding life-changing opportunities for students to put their learning into action — from internships and collaborative research to eye-opening study abroad adventures. Every dollar helps cultivate a thriving campus environment where outstanding students of every background are welcomed, celebrated and prepared for lives of consequence.
An investment today is an investment in Washington and Lee’s future alumni, who will carry forward our core values of honor, integrity and civility. Contributions to the W&L Fund allow us to provide every student with an education steeped in those principles, while offering transformative opportunities that would otherwise be unattainable.
The W&L Fund — annual, unrestricted giving — supports the university wherever the need is greatest. The W&L Fund is a reflection of our continued focus on deepening community engagement and enhancing the student experience, elevating W&L’s competitive status, improving the school’s academic and co-curricular offerings, and ensuring that this singular institution will endure for generations to come.
The W&L Fund is comprised of annual undergraduate and law school alumni giving, parent giving, reunion giving and planned giving. It also includes gifts from the W&L senior class.
Reunion Giving
Each year, alumni celebrate their milestone reunions by returning to campus and supporting the W&L Fund as part of their class gifts. Alumni honor their W&L experience while ensuring future students receive an exceptional education. For more information, contact Jessica Cohen, director of reunion campaigns, at jcohen@wlu.edu or (540) 458-8358.
Parent Giving
Parent giving plays a vital role in the W&L Fund, regularly contributing 15% of its total. Last year, current and former non-alumni parents donated $1.57 million, directly enhancing the university’s leading liberal arts education and student opportunities. For more information about Parent Giving, contact Tara Hackenberg, director of parent giving, at thackenberg@wlu.edu or (540) 458-8128.
Planned Giving
Planned giving celebrates your legacy at W&L by sustaining its tradition of excellence for generations to come. Your thoughtful foresight supports transformative student experiences, world-class faculty and the enduring value of a liberal arts education. For more information about Planned Giving at W&L, contact Jacqueline Painter, associate director of gift planning at (540) 458-8429 or jpainter@wlu.edu.
